(PRWEB) October 12, 2000

Digital Media Festival at the UP College of Fine Arts

Powered by Canon Philippines, digital media turned the UPCFA Gallery into an exposition floor, panel discussion series, new media art gallery and, through webcasting on the Internet, a virtual online gallery.

Dubbed Digital Media Festival 2000 (DMF2K) the first of its kind event featured a digital photography exhibit, desktop prints, large format prints, an artists talk series, a video art show, and on-the-spot digital video and digital photography.

DMF2K was conceptualized by Fatima Lasay, lecturer at the College, for her students in Digital Art and Hypermedia. Opened on October 2 at 9:00 a.m., student works including interactive CD-ROM programs, desktop and large format prints, installation works, and experimental desktop prints were showcased in the UPCFA Gallery and DMF2K website as well as a video art presentation with support from the Video Art class of UP professor Benjie Cabangis. DMF2K also has a home on the web at http://digitalmedia.upd.edu.ph/ as well as a discussion group for students, artists, sponsors and industry partners at http://dg.up.edu.ph/digitalmedia.html.

eArt Philippines supports young new media artists

Thanks to eArt Philippines, young digital art students got a chance to interact with the country’s top digital artists in an Artists Talks series. Scheduled on October 2, 1:00 p.m., the UPCFA Gallery hosted Artists Talks by eArt founder Rosscapili, graphic artist Dopy Doplon, young computer graphics designer Archie Degamo and digital artist Al Manrique. Large format print works of various eArt members were also featured in the Festival.

Canon sponsors digital know-how

The On-the-Spot Digital Photography and On-the-Spot Digital Video Exhibitions were made possible thru support from Canon Philippines. Thru this partnership, students get first hand use of Canon’s top of the line digital cameras and video cameras, and experience how these digital media tools expand their artistic capabilities. A Canon large format printer was also installed in the Gallery on October 2 to print best digital works of students. On October 3, 10:00 a.m., Canon shared digital video tools with students of Video Art and on October 4, 9:00 a.m., also at the UPCFA Gallery, Canon sponsored an exchange of ideas on digital photography with students from the College and the Graduate Program.

CompuADD, Inc. also participated in the event by bringing in an HP large format printer to print digital artworks of students during the show.

Cross-platform technology

iMacs and PCs work together at the Digital Media Festival with digital media tools from Canon Philippines and computers from Web Philippines, Inc. and Macintosh Express. Creativity is set free when digital media tools work together cross-platform and produce outstanding results. Seven iMacs were brought in by Web Philippines, Inc. and Macintosh Express for students to use throughout the festival.

DMF2K opened on Monday October 2 at 9:00 a.m. and ran until Wednesday October 4, at the UP College of FIne Arts Gallery in Diliman, Quezon City.
