Yesterday, the 2nd annual Das IronGeek happened on the SXSW tradeshow floor. This year, MapQuest, Seidio, SoftLayer, Triviatise, and Das IronGeek presenting sponsor, Das Keyboard, created fun, geeky challenges for 6 influencer competitors. Press, bloggers, and/or serial entrepreneurs Joshua Baer, Larry Chiang, Amanda Coolong, Lydia Leavitt, Harry McCracken and Nan Palmero competed. Ultimately, Joshua Baer was crowned the IronGeek of SXSW 2011, taking home a set of fabulous prizes, and the coveted Das IronGeek trophy.
Who will be crowned in 2012? Time will tell! Meantime, follow @dasirongeek and watch http://www.dasirongeek.com for video of the day. And you can still go visit participating companies at their SXSW booths today and tomorrow, Thursday, March 17, 11 am to 6 pm. Test out your own geekiness!
Das IronGeek was created to give a set of companies on at the SXSW tradeshow a fun, interactive way to attract the crowds, by bringing influencers in to compete in 5 different challenges, and ultimately determine whos geekiest?
We started this as an experiment in 2010, along with MapQuest and SoftLayer. The goal was to bring some more buzz and excitement to the SXSW tradeshow floor, and give press a way to get involved with some healthy competition among peers and, of course, a way to showcase their geekiness, said Das Keyboard co-founder Birgit Schroeder. We think we succeeded, and appreciate everyone who was part of Das IronGeek along the way, particularly our fellow participating companies and the amazing six competitors. Congratulations to them all, and especially to our IronGeek champ, Joshua.
A Competitive Fleet of Influencers:
The Das IronGeek competitors collectively represented long time tech industry analysts and young buck social networking influencers; California, New York and Texas; men and women; and entrepreneurs, consultants and journalists.
